Nowadays, we have a shedload of entertainment at our fingertips. Streaming services and on-demand television make watching your favourite shows and movies easier than ever. In previous articles, we have given you some pointers on using services such as Netflix. This time, we are looking at a more recent streaming platform which launched in 2019. On this service you can find the likes of Marvel, Star Wars, Hulu, National Geographic, and more. This platform is Disney+.
What is Disney+?
Disney+ (also known as Disney Plus) is your one-stop shop for all your favourite Disney content, new and old. As well as what you expect from Disney, there’s also tons of content from brands such as Pixar, Marvel Studios, National Geographic, and the Star Wars universe. You can also find content from the Disney-owned Fox network.
Most of the content consists of Disney’s massive library of pre-existing shows and movies, but the selection is always growing. There are hidden gems to be found, as well as big-budget shows exclusive to the platform alongside classics from the Disney Vault.
How Much Does It Cost?
Unlike other streaming services, Disney+ does not offer a free trial period. However, you can save on the overall cost by purchasing an annual subscription rather than paying monthly.
The monthly subscription costs £7.99 per month and can be cancelled at any time. However, the annual subscription costs £79.90 per year, saving you 16%. Altogether, this means you get 12 months for the price of 10.

Benefits of Your Disney+ Subscription
- Exclusive Originals such as blockbusters, movies, bingeable shows, short movies, and documentaries. You won’t find these anywhere except Disney+.
- The app can be downloaded onto 10 devices and you can have up to 7 different profiles.
- Up to 4 screens can stream simultaneously.
How to Set-Up Disney+
1. Go to the Disney Plus website. This can be done in any web browser on your computer, phone, or tablet.
2. Create an account using your email address and create a password. Here are some tips for choosing a secure password:
- Use a variation of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols such as: ! ? – £ @
- The longer the password, the more difficult it will be to guess. Try to include at least 8 letters, numbers, and/or symbols.
- Choose something memorable but not too obvious. Avoid any variations of your name, birthdate, or the names of pets and family members, etc.
- Avoid commonly used passwords such as the word ‘password’, ‘123456’, or ‘qwerty’. Also avoid single words like ‘chocolate’ or ‘alpaca’.
- Do not use a password you have used before. If you are worried about forgetting your passwords, consider a password manager app.
3. Select which plan you would like, whether that’s monthly or annual.
4. Enter your billing information.
5. Click the blue ‘AGREE & SUBSCRIBE‘ button.
6. You will now be ready to go. When you open Disney+, log-in with your account details. A screen will ask ‘Who’s Watching?’ At this point you can add another profile, which will be useful if more than one person is using the account.
After setting up your account, you may be asked to verify your email address. New profiles will also need to be approved by the account holder if they want to view content with higher age ratings.
Using Disney+
Once you are logged in and have chosen your profile, you will be presented with the full Disney+ library. Here, you can scroll to find the shows you want. If you are using a computer, you can navigate using your mouse. On a tablet, you can explore with your finger, clicking on whatever you want to watch.
For people watching on a SmartTV, you will need to use the arrow buttons on your remote control.
Remember that you can keep pressing ‘right’ on a category to find more shows and movies. If you can’t see what you’re looking for, Disney+ also has a search feature. When you select ‘Search’, you will be able to type in what you’re looking for and the app will provide results. You can also filter by category, which may return more results than the homepage.
Spend some time familiarising yourself with how the app works. If you get stuck somewhere, press the back button on your browser or on your remote control.
The app is designed to be intuitive and easy to use, so after some practice you’ll soon be watching old favourites and discovering new ones.
What to Watch
If you’re just getting started with Disney+, you may feel a little overwhelmed by the wealth of content available to you. To help you get started, here are some ideas.
- The Mandalorian – If you grew up with classic Star Wars but couldn’t get into the prequels and sequels, The Mandalorian brings a fresh twist to the franchise.
- Disney Classics – You can find all the classic films you remember from Disney, plus some older titles you may have missed. Revisit the beautiful animations of Snow White or The Little Mermaid.
- Marvel Shows – If you’re a fan of the blockbuster Marvel movies like The Avengers and Iron Man, Disney+ has become the home to several original series set in the hugely successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, with more to come.
- The X-Files – Disney+ isn’t all about family-friendly content. There are plenty of dramas and documentaries for more mature audiences. Legendary sci-fi series The X-Files has found a home there, alongside many other great shows.
