What is the Defence Discount Service?
The Ministry of Defence provides a dedicated discount service to military personnel. By signing up to the Defence Discount Service, you receive exclusive access to discounts across the nation. These apply both online and in-store. The service also encourages businesses small and large to get involved.
The Defence Discount Service is accepted at many outlets across the country. This includes food shops such as Costa Coffee and Subway. Other stores include big names like Sports Direct and Halfords. The discounts can also be applied to holidays, insurance, or cars.
Who Qualifies?
The Defence Discount Service is available to all serving and former members of the armed forces. This includes the Reserves, MoD civil servants, and cadets over 16. Spouses, partners, and widows/widowers are also eligible.
How Much Does It Cost?
The great news is that it is completely free for members of the armed forces to apply online. Registering gets you immediate access to hundreds of online discounts. To get a physical card for use in shops, however, you need to apply for a Defence Privilege Card. This physical card costs £4.99 and lasts for five years, so it’s definitely a worthwhile investment.
