Top 3 Fitness Trackers in 2020

• Written by Josh

It’s important for older people to remain as fit and active as possible, in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle and lower their chances of any long-term medical conditions. There are plenty of ways of staying active, but perhaps one of the easiest methods of doing so is by using fitness trackers.

Fitness trackers are perfect for monitoring your activity and achievements each day, and can be a great motivator. We’ve browsed the internet’s tech experts and put together a list of the top three fitness trackers available in 2020.

1. Samsung Gear Fit2

Despite not being the newest release, Samsung’s Gear Fit2 has been a solid option for a while now. It comes with a 1.5 inch AMOLED screen and includes several pre-installed fitness-centric apps such as MapMyRun and Speedo Go. What’s more, the band can be customised, so you can have it in a choice of colours rather than just the standard black.

If you like to listen to music as you run, then you’re in for a treat. The Fit2 sports band can use Spotify’s offline mode, which means your fitness tracker can act as a standalone music player which will play music through to the wireless headphones. It connects to your mobile phone as well, meaning you don’t need to carry your phone with you on a run. Once connected, you’ll be able to send and receive texts, accept phone calls and control your music.

With average use, you can expect your fitness tracker to last between two and three days before running out of battery, with charging lasting around 90 minutes. The device will also auto-detect several different workouts and is swimming friendly thanks to a Water Lock feature which turns off touch functionality on the screen.

2. Garmin Vivosport

All of Garmin’s sports products are excellent choices. Whilst not as stylish as many of the fitbit options on the market, the Garmin Vivosport is a lot cheaper and the battery life is a huge selling point, lasting up to seven days before requiring a charge. What’s more, the heart rate tracker is a lot more functional than many others on the market.

The main downside of this band is that it doesn’t effectively track swim workouts. Whilst it’s waterproof, it’s not the most reliable when making note of your swimming progress. With this said, it’s excellent for both cycling or jogging.

There’s also the even cheaper option of the Garmin Vivofit 4 – the less sporty option, with a few less features, but still excellent if you’re wanting a decent, moderately priced fitness tracker.

3. Fitbit Versa 2

Fitbit is the brand that you immediately think about when somebody mentions fitness trackers. The range of fitness trackers is huge but we’re going to suggest one of the latest models.

The device will monitor your step count on a daily basis, but as is to be expected of a new Fitbit, it does so much more than that. This model has Amazon Alexa built in, so you can check the weather, set timers, and even control your smart home devices. That means you could have the kettle on ready for when you return from your run!

The Versa 2 essentially works very much like a phone would – you can install apps, track your sleep, pay for things, and much more. This may be a bit complex for those of you looking for a simple fitness device, but for the tech savvy it’s definitely up among the best!

There is plenty of customisation available too. If you’re looking to spend a little more on your device you can choose the special editions, which come in navy and pink, or black and grey.
