LifeConnect24 personal alarm systems are a trusted solution for keeping people independent in their own homes and reducing hospital admissions. A LifeConnect Alarm usually consists of a LifeConnect pendant worn around the neck or a personal alarm wristband, alongside an alarm base unit that plugs into the mains power and landline phone connection. Advances in personal alarm systems mean we now offer products with digital connections, removing the need for phone lines for an extra layer of reassurance.

If a LifeConnect24 user needs assistance, they can press the button on their personal alarm pendant and know that help is on its way. Alternatively, using advanced technology, our fall alarm can detect when a fall has occurred and automatically alerts our team. Activating their personal alarm will send an alert to our 24/7 Response Team, who will speak to the alarm user through the personal alarm base unit and contact their family or other emergency contacts. If necessary, our team can also alert the emergency services.

This means that the alarm user can remain independent at home, safe in the knowledge that our Response Team is there in case of an emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In some cases, having a personal alarm in place can shorten and even prevent hospital admissions.

Personal Alarms for the elderly

LifeConnect provides personal alarms for elderly people who want to remain independent in their own homes. Our personal alarm wristband and pendants provide reassurance to people who may be worried about their mobility at home, who live with long-term medical conditions, or who live alone.

Personal alarm systems also provide peace of mind to family and friends. Our customers’ loved ones know that our Response Team are always available to contact family when help is required.

Different Types of Personal Alarms for the Elderly

What is an Analogue Alarm?

The analogue alarm connects to an existing phoneline, which it uses to send an alert to our 24/7 Response Team when activated. Wearing a personal alarm watch or pendant provides round the clock coverage throughout the home and garden, supporting your independence.

What is a Fall Alarm?

Falls are a worry for many of our elderly customers. One in three over-75s are likely to experience a fall every year.  If falls are a concern for you or a loved one, a personal alarm with automatic fall detection is the choice for you. Fall alarms use an innovative technology to sense when a fall has occurred, sending an automatic alert to our Response Team who can arrange help. All our LifeConnect personal alarms, including analogue and digital, can be upgraded to include automatic fall detection.

What is a Digital Alarm?

Most personal alarms use an analogue phoneline to connect customers to our Response Team. Our digital alarms, such as the LifeConnect SmartLife Alarm, use a mobile phone connection to send an alert, so they’re perfect if you haven’t got a phoneline, or want to be able to plug your base unit into any room. Digital alarm technology means you could be connected to our Response Team in as little as 10 seconds. Our SmartLife alarm offers added reassurance throughout your home, providing an alert range of 600m with only a mains power supply required.

What is a Personal Alarm Pendant?

LifeConnect personal alarms come in two parts: a base alarm unit and an alert pendant. Your pendant can be worn around the neck, as a personal alarm watch, or on a personal alarm keychain for easy access in an emergency.

Personal alarm pendants are lightweight and waterproof, so you can safely wear your pendant in the bath or shower, where falls are more likely.

With the LifeConnect24 Lifetime Warranty, you never need to worry about your alarm pendant running out of battery. Our pendants come with up to seven years of battery life with no need for charging. When battery runs low, an alert is automatically sent to our team through the alarm base unit, and we send out a free replacement to make sure you’re always covered.

We also offer additional pendants to cover two people in the same household under one alarm plan, providing further reassurance. Alternatively, an additional pendant could be used as a spare if you misplace your main pendant.

VAT Exemption on Personal Alarms

You do not need to pay VAT on your personal alarm if you’re living with:

  • A long-term condition (that has an adverse effect on your ability to perform daily tasks)
  • A chronic condition
  • A terminal illness

FAQs

Only our analogue personal alarms require a landline connection to work. We also offer the SmartLife digital personal alarm. This does not require a landline connection, instead using a roaming mobile signal to send an alert to our Response Team.

No, you will not need a second phoneline. Our analogue personal alarm plugs into your existing phoneline without affecting its functionality.

If your home has been upgraded to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) as part of the nationwide digital switchover, your analogue alarm will need to be plugged into your internet router using an adaptor instead.

If you do not have a landline phone, the SmartLife digital alarm does not require a phoneline to work. Instead, it requires only a mains power connection. Find out more on our digital alarms page.

No, our personal alarms do not require an internet connection to function.

You will only need an internet connection if your home phoneline has been upgraded to use Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) as part of the nationwide digital switchover. This applies only to our analogue alarms, which will also require an adaptor to continue working with VoIP.

Yes. Your personal alarm will not affect your existing broadband connection.

The analogue alarm works in the same way as a standard landline telephone, so it will work alongside a broadband connection. You simply need to make sure you have an ADSL filter, which should be connected to your main landline socket. If you need an ADSL filter and can’t locate one, you should be able to request this from your current broadband or telephone provider. Your alarm will connect to either the “Phone” or “Analogue” socket in your ADSL filter, whereas your broadband will be connected to the “Modem” section.

Using the phone adaptor provided, you will be able to plug your telephone handset into the back of your alarm unit. This way, your alarm, your telephone, and your broadband can work alongside each other.

If you choose the SmartLife personal alarm, you will not need a phoneline. Instead, it uses a mobile connection to send an alert to our Response Team. This means it will not interfere with your broadband connection.

Households that have been upgraded to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) as part of the nationwide digital switchover will require an extra adaptor for their analogue personal alarm. Instead of plugging it into the main landline connection, it instead plugs into the back of your broadband router. You will be able to continue using your broadband as normal.

All LifeConnect24 products are covered by a lifetime warranty. If, for any reason, you require replacement equipment, we will provide it to you free of charge. Our personal alarm pendants all come with up to seven years of battery life. When the battery runs low, the pendant sends an automatic alert to our team, who send out a replacement to make sure you continue to benefit from 24/7 personal alarm protection.

An alarm-linked smoke detector is fitted in your home like other smoke alarms to help protect you from fires. When it detects smoke, the smoke detector activates an audible warning and sends an alert to your personal alarm, connecting you to our Response Team the same as when you press the button on your alarm pendant or base unit.

When you order a smoke detector with your alarm unit, it will be automatically connected. If you order one at a later date, you will be provided with instructions for connecting it to your alarm.

Find out more about your alarm-linked smoke detector by viewing the product page.

If you or someone you know has a personal alarm and you are not sure who has supplied it, there are a few things you can try.

Normally, the equipment itself will indicate who has supplied it. For example, all our personal alarms have a sticker on the unit with our contact details.

Failing this, you can activate your alarm and ask the person on the other end who the alarm is provided by. Alternatively, you can check the alarm user’s bank statements. The company name should be listed beside any payments.
