A closer look at the MyAmie Pendant
Falls are the most common cause of injury related deaths in people over the age of 75 here in the United Kingdom. In fact, according to this national audit, falls among older people is now the most common cause of major trauma seen in NHS hospitals. Our personal alarm service can help to protect those people who are at risk of a fall. By having an alarm, you can continue living the peace and comfort of your own home rather than having to move into a care home or remaining in a hospital bed that is in demand. The personal alarm gives you somebody to call for help should you fall or feel unwell. It is hoped that by having a personal alarm you will feel more confident and safe in your home, and that your family and friends have peace of mind about your safety. This article will focus primarily on the MyAmie Pendant, which comes as part of the personal alarm package.

The MyAmie Pendant

The MyAmie Pendant comes alongside the Lifeline Vi Alarm Base Unit and comes full of the very latest in Telecare technology. You can choose how you wish to wear your MyAmie Pendant, with a wrist strap and neck cord included inside the box. This allows you to wear it around your wrist like a watch, or as a necklace around your neck. The choice comes down to what you prefer, and which one feels more comfortable to you. The MyAmie Pendant has been designed to be as stylish and as comfortable as possible to ensure that the user feels that they can wear it without looking out of place. Many of our customers admit that they don't bother taking their wrist alarm off when they go to visit friends or go shopping. It's small and discreet, yet the red button on the pendant is actually a third larger than the previous model. Not only is the MyAmie Pendant stylish, but it also has a number of great and potentially life-saving features:
  • Waterproof - The MyAmie Pendant is waterproof so that you can wear it in the bath and shower. Given the slippery nature of the bathroom the chances of a fall increase, so having your alarm with you is really important.
  • 100m Range - The pendant has a range of up to 100m. This means that if you are a keen gardener, or just like to relax in the sun, you can do so with the peace of mind that you can 'call' for help if you have an incident outside.
  • No Charging - The MyAmie Pendant has a seven year battery life. We will receive an automatic warning when the battery is running low and free replacement will be sent.
  • Safe Frequency - The MyAmie Pendant uses the 869MHz European Social Alarm Frequency. This means that it will not interfere with any other medical equipment that you may have in your home.

How does it work?

As we have previously mentioned, the MyAmie Pendant connects to the Lifeline Vi Alarm Base Unit. Once your new alarm has been installed and tested, your pendant will connect you to our 24-hour Care Team who work all year round to ensure that you always have somebody to call for help. If you have a fall, feel unwell or feel concerned or suspicious about your safety, you simply need to press the red button your pendant. This will sent an instant alert through to our Care Team, who have achieved accreditation from the governing body - the Telecare Services Association. A member of the team will respond immediately over the base unit's loudspeaker, and will talk with you to assess your situation. The Care Team will then take the appropriate action, which commonly involves them calling for your emergency contacts - friends, family and neighbours. If your situation requires medical attention, the Care Team will also contact the emergency services on your behalf. Any medical information will also be passed on to the paramedics so that they are in the best possible position to help you once they arrive. Wearing the MyAmie Pendant means that even if you are living alone, you can find help within a matter of moments if you have a fall. Without an alarm you could end up lying there for many hours, in-turn causing more damage to your well-being.
The Care Team were extremely kind and understanding throughout the set-up of my alarm and I have to say that the installation was quite easy for me and my husband to complete. I chose to wear my pendant around my neck and I am proud to wear it, it’s not in any way uncomfortable and I can always tuck it inside my dress or blouse if I don’t want it on show.” - Joan Wood, LifeConnect24 Customer

Second Pendant

When you order your personal alarm you can choose to add an additional MyAmie Pendant to your order. This will allow you to keep one pendant just for use outside in the garden, or to leave one as a spare on your bedside table. Some of our customers like to have a spare just in case they misplace their original pendant and can't remember where it is. If you do live with a partner then you can also have an additional MyAmie Pendant for them to wear, using the same Lifeline Vi Alarm base unit. This means that both of you can feel safe at home with just one alarm base unit installed. This extra option is available at a price of £49 per year on the Annual Plan, or £5 per month on the Monthly Plan. The prices given at VAT Exempt. To find out if you qualify please read our VAT Exemption blog post.
