Choosing which key safe to buy with your Lifeline Alarm can be a confusing process. There are lots of models on the market, each boasting different unique features and often very different price tags.
So which one should you choose? This short guide attempts to explain the differences between key safes and help you in finding the right key safe for you.
What is a Key Safe and why do I need one?
A key safe is a secure metal box that can be attached to the exterior wall of a property. Inside the key safe, the owner keeps a spare key to their home. On the front of the key safe is a panel used for entering a code. The key safe can only be opened by someone who knows the programmed code.
Key safes are helpful in lots of different situations. They are commonly used by carers to save the occupant from having to get the door. However they are particularly useful for elderly or disabled people using a Lifeline alarm and pendant.
In an emergency situation we can provide the paramedics with the key safe details before they even arrive at the scene, allowing them to gain access to the property immediately without causing any damage. The seconds, or even minutes, saved in a situation like this can mean everything.
Are Key Safes secure?
They are much more secure than the alternatives. For example, a key safe is much more secure than keeping a spare key under the doormat.
They are designed with security in mind and in almost all instances it would be easier for a potential intruder to find another method of entry (such as breaking a window). One key safe, the Supra C500, is the only key safe in UK with police approval and an independent security rating, LPS 1175 Level 1, which means that the C500 provides the same security as a domestic front door.
What is the difference between Key Safe models?
At the time of writing, LifeConnect24 provide 4 options when it comes to purchasing a key safe. These are all excellent and will work very well with a Lifeline Alarm, although there are a few differences. The
Outside Security Key safe,
Supra Slimline and
Supra C500 are all push button models whereas the
Yale Y500 uses a rolling combination lock.
They also differ in size somewhat but all can hold most key designs. There is also a difference in price that corresponds to location of manufacture, materials used and other variables. We have found, however, that all of these key safes are easy to use, secure and in many instances life saving devices.
