What is a Personal Alarm?
LifeConnect24 personal alarm systems are a trusted solution for keeping people independent in their own homes and reducing hospital admissions. A LifeConnect Alarm usually consists of a LifeConnect pendant worn around the neck or a personal alarm wristband, alongside an alarm base unit that plugs into the mains power and landline phone connection. Advances in personal alarm systems mean we now offer products with digital connections, removing the need for phone lines for an extra layer of reassurance.
If a LifeConnect24 user needs assistance, they can press the button on their personal alarm pendant and know that help is on its way. Alternatively, using advanced technology, our fall alarm can detect when a fall has occurred and automatically alerts our team. Activating their personal alarm will send an alert to our 24/7 Response Team, who will speak to the alarm user through the personal alarm base unit and contact their family or other emergency contacts. If necessary, our team can also alert the emergency services.
This means that the alarm user can remain independent at home, safe in the knowledge that our Response Team is there in case of an emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In some cases, having a personal alarm in place can shorten and even prevent hospital admissions.

Different Types of Personal Alarms for the Elderly
What is an Analogue Alarm?
The analogue alarm connects to an existing phoneline, which it uses to send an alert to our 24/7 Response Team when activated. Wearing a personal alarm watch or pendant provides round the clock coverage throughout the home and garden, supporting your independence.
What is a Fall Alarm?
Falls are a worry for many of our elderly customers. One in three over-75s are likely to experience a fall every year. If falls are a concern for you or a loved one, a personal alarm with automatic fall detection is the choice for you. Fall alarms use an innovative technology to sense when a fall has occurred, sending an automatic alert to our Response Team who can arrange help. All our LifeConnect personal alarms, including analogue and digital, can be upgraded to include automatic fall detection.
What is a Digital Alarm?
Most personal alarms use an analogue phoneline to connect customers to our Response Team. Our digital alarms, such as the LifeConnect SmartLife Alarm, use a mobile phone connection to send an alert, so they’re perfect if you haven’t got a phoneline, or want to be able to plug your base unit into any room. Digital alarm technology means you could be connected to our Response Team in as little as 10 seconds. Our SmartLife alarm offers added reassurance throughout your home, providing an alert range of 600m with only a mains power supply required.
Personal Alarm Pendants
LifeConnect personal alarms come in two parts: a base alarm unit and an alert pendant. Your pendant can be worn around the neck, as a personal alarm watch, or on a personal alarm keychain for easy access in an emergency.
Personal alarm pendants are lightweight and waterproof, so you can safely wear your pendant in the bath or shower, where falls are more likely.
With the LifeConnect24 Lifetime Warranty, you never need to worry about your alarm pendant running out of battery. Our pendants come with up to seven years of battery life with no need for charging. When battery runs low, an alert is automatically sent to our team through the alarm base unit, and we send out a free replacement to make sure you’re always covered.
We also offer additional pendants to cover two people in the same household under one alarm plan, providing further reassurance. Alternatively, an additional pendant could be used as a spare if you misplace your main pendant.
VAT Exemption on personal alarms
You do not need to pay VAT on your personal alarm if you’re living with:
- a long-term condition (that has an adverse effect on your ability to perform daily tasks)
- a chronic condition
- a terminal illness
